Abstract

This paper deals with an interesting theme for information professionals, which is the service historically offered to foster scientific research. During the XIX th century the Francisco de Zabálburu Library developed a large activity in spreading and communicating knowledge on social sciences and humanities. This study emphasizes the role of librarians in accessing to documentary sources and consolidating both formal and informal channels of scientific communication.
