Abstract

The aim is to reflect upon new transport infrastructures in upland areas of the Iberian Peninsula. There will be a review some of the concepts relating to land transport and to mountainous areas, followed by consideration of the repercussions of the siting of transport routes and corridors. Particular attention will be given to the sub-regional zones of the Spanish slopes of the Pyrenees, a physical and political frontier, and to the inland, Castilian and Leonese side of the Cantabrian mountain range, likewise a geographical and political boundary. To conclude, consideration will be given to prospects in the current situation of economic crisis.
