Abstract

     Mar Menor is the most important tourist destination of the Región de Murcia given its particularities, the supply and demand size and the economic impact over the Councils of the area. An analysis of tourism topics, supply and demand sides, has been done through the use of data surveys, collected by a local tourist research group during the years 2000 and 2001. The demand side analysis of this paper is very influenced by the preponderance of the second residence and this particularity of the Mar Menor tourism allows us to show the main characteristics, viability and trends regarding this specific demand at the Mediterranean Spanish coast. Additionally, the analysis of tourist host at the official supply (hotels, apartments, campings, etc.) has been done just when the supply study is developed. Finally, the Mar Menor has been divided into two areas (La Manga and the interior littoral), given the differences and particularities of the two areas when we consider supply and demand topics.
