Abstract

The article analyzes the prospects of sustainable tourism in Chilean Patagonia in relation to the likely implementation of hydroelectric plants in its territory. We study the impact of a large hydroelectric project in the region of Aysén (Chile) and its impact on tourism. It is concluded that the construction and operation of large reservoirs and dams with corresponding electrical transmission lines would affect the main competitive advantage of tourism in Patagonia: a nature that is still preserved and that has been projected in the social imaginary.
