Abstract

Since few years ago, the tourist demand has been clearly showing new tendencies about time for leisure, sport and cultural activities, etc. A new combination of those factors are emerging from a tourist demand perspective where the consumers shows behaviours more active and participative. In this sense both, «sun and beach» and «cultural» tourist products emerge as two products for two different segment of the demand in increasing competence between both. Nevertheless, the analysis of the new tendencies in tourist demand mentioned above (segmentations of holidays, evolution of occupation during the months with less demand, new preferences, etc.) show us that exist growing complements between both products that, properly traded, could generate profits for both kind of destinations. This paper concludes determining that the tourism motivated by «cultural» reasons could act as an element to reduce the seasonality of the «sun and beach» product. Similarly, «sun and beach» tourism could act as an increasing element of the demand of tourism for «cultural» purposes.
