Abstract

La Manga is a spit of sandy land separating Mar Menor (‘small sea’) from the Mediterranean. In fact, it is the most relevant tourist space in the region of Murcia, although mainly restricted to the summer season. A Plan to Encourage Tourist Competitiveness has recently been launched with the aim of changing this seasonality. Among other objectives, this plan contemplates the promotion of nautical activities all year round: this seems a feasible aim, in view of the physical characteristics of the area and the existence of the adequate infrastructures.
