Abstract

We present a detailed study of a small text the Aragonese colony in the Philippines islands dedicated to the Virgen del Pilar. It is a work from the library of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and practically unknown in Spain. It shows concerns and fears of the Spaniards residing then in the Philippines, because of the struggle for independence was in full swing. It also shows the high intellectual level of the leading Spanish religious and officials in those moments in the archipelago.
