Abstract

Present day tourists are more demanding with respect to the climate of their vacation destination. The countries with colder climates take advantage of their climate by developing winter sports for their tourists from warmer areas while the ones with warmer ones exploit theirs for those from the colder countries. This work is about the climate of a small tropical island-municipio just 20 kilómeters east of the main island of Puerto Rico with a climate that favors a more developed tourist industry that it currently has. In summary, Vieques is an island with great potential for developing a tourist industry based on the characteristics of its climate but which has not taken advantage of it.
