Abstract

Ethnography of traditional rural beliefs about the death of unbaptized children, suicides and souls. Rural societies created a system of beliefs, rites and attitudes that allowed alleviating emotional tensions and facilitating the transition between life and death. The article analyzes in particular the liminal cases such as those excluded from the cemetery, burials in secret, children's funeral, rites of euthanasia, omens of death, alternative places of burial and the belief in the visit of the spirits.
