Abstract

In this work it is defined first of all what is murcian language and its difference with the panocho. Then, we offer a selection of literary texts dealing with issues related to water: life in the shacks at the edge of the channels, love in relation to water, irrigation of crops, drought and floods... without forgetting the legends. The selected works range from the anonymous romance «La barraca», from nineteenth century, to works by contemporary authors, through classics like Pedro Díaz Cassou, José Frutos Baeza or Vicente Medina, authors to whom we owe a cultural heritage of great ethnographic value.
