Abstract

The greatest change in the Catholic liturgy post Vatican II was the opening up to the community. And one of the ways the faithful could participate was precisely through the songs used in the ceremonies. The objective of this piece is to analyse the substantial changes that took place in the repertoire of liturgical music in village or neighbourhood parishes after the proposals made by the Second Vatican Council, concentrating our investigation on the parishes of Campo de Cartagena. Many of the ideas stated here are comparable in the vast majority of Spanish parishes, since, while there are certain changes in the repertoires, the main body of songs used is basically the same.
