Abstract

The folk ensembles called «Cuadrillas de Animeros», «Cuadrillas de Aguilanderos» or «Cuadrillas de Pascua» can be found in Murcia, Albacete, Almería and Alicante. Their activity is performed throughout the year coinciding with important events in the liturgical calendar. In the region of Campo de Cartagena there are many gangs in different rural areas. Carrying out the major part of its activity especially at Christmas, these gangs are known as «Cuadrillas de Pascua». The most important part of its musical repertoire is «aguilando» or «aguinaldo», Christmas piece bearing the name of the traditional Christmas gift. This paper analyse these pieces in Campo de Cartagena, delving into their music and their origin. Due to further research, historical and social data and a review of the main characteristics of this type of musical ensembles are also provided.
