Abstract

The origin of the village of Los Belones can be found in the sharing that took place among the farmers and peasants of the old lands belonging to the town of Rincón de San Ginés. Later on these lands were acquired by people who had a high purchasing power. Then there came the Bellón Brothers, merchants in Cartagena who, though born in Alicante, were the sons of a couple of French immigrants from Marseille. As the owners of some of these lands, they obtained a permission from the local authorities of Cartagena in order to get a profi t from the remaining waters out of the Grande and Chica fountains. The awarding of this permission favoured the foundation of Los Belones as a village.
