Focus and reach

Revista Murciana de Antropología (Murcian Journal of Anthropology) is an international scientific publication. It includes original research articles on anthropology, ethnography, history and cultural heritage, etc. It also includes various contributions, reports and reviews or  some related to our discipline, both of national and international reach.

Publication frequency

Annual frequency (December 30th).

Open access policy

The journal provides its contents in immediate open access and in full text, under the principle that allowing free access to research findings results in a greater global exchange of knowledge. The magazine is available for free on the public Internet with the sole limitation of copyright (CC BY-SA). That is, all content is freely available, without any charge to the user or their institution. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link the full texts of the articles in this journal without requesting prior permission from the editor or author, in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

Work submission and management fees 

Revista Murciana de Antropología does not charge authors fees for submitting their work nor does it charge fees for the publication of their articles. Both the authors (application, processing or subscription) and the readers are exempt from financial costs.

Submission of originals and peer review process 

When sending originals, please follow the instructions in the section Guidelines for authors. The review of the originals follows a 4-step process outlined in that same section.

Ethics of the publication

The journal considers it important to follow a series of rules of ethical behavior. Authorship: It should be limited to those people who have truly contributed to the realization of the published text. Originality: The contributions of the authors must be original, therefore, it is necessary to properly recognize the sources used and the works cited or used. Also, avoid multiple or redundant publication. Conflict of interest: The relationships that may cause a conflict of interest must be recognized when formulating objectives, working hypotheses or establishing an assertion.

History of the journal

Revista Murciana de Antropología was founded in 1994 by Professor Antonino González Blanco, who directed it until 2012, with the collaboration of all those interested in Social and Cultural Anthropology  in the Region of Murcia, among whom Luis Álvarez Munárriz and Francisco J. Flores Arroyuelo have stood out.

In 2013 a new team, made up of Pedro Martínez Cavero, José Antonio Molina Gómez and Juan F. Jordán Montés, was in charge of managing the journal in collaboration with the Publications Service of the University of Murcia and SOMA (Sociedad Murciana de Anthropology).

Since 2019, Pedro Martínez Cavero and Klaus Schriewer, professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Murcia, have been directing the journal. Revista Murciana de Antropología has broadened its original objectives to those works that address the issues of our discipline from a national and international scope.

  • 1st stage (1994-2012). Directed by Antonino González Blanco. (issues 1-19).
  • 2nd stage (2013-2018). Co-directed by Pedro Martínez Cavero, José Antonio Molina Gómez and Juan F. Jordán Montés. (issues 20-25).
  • 3rd stage (2019-). Co-directed by Pedro Martínez Cavero and Klaus Schriewer. (issues 26-)

Since 2015, the magazine has mainly addressed issues of national and European content, without forgetting those that affect Anthropology and regional heritage. In 2015 the issue of water culture in the Spanish Southeast was discussed, in 2016 Francoism, in 2017 issues of Economic Anthropology, in 2018 the present and future of UNESCO codes were studied, and in 2019 European funerary cultures. In addition to national specialists, authors from Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain have participated in the journal. The 2019 volume has had the support of the CEEUM (Center for European Studies of the University of Murcia) and the Jean Monnet Chair.
