Abstract

In the 21st century -the 'century of communication'- incommunication is, paradoxically, one of the main problems of present times. Though this can be seen in many respects, incommunication is especially present in the relation between the doctor and the patient where, being a good understanding a primary objective, various disturbing elements can cause a very high communicative break up according to statistics, both linguistic (the use of foreign words or phases, abbreviations, acronyms, dialectalisms), or non-linguistic (anxiety, fear, worries, and so). In this paper we try to show this fact through a detailed analysis of interpersonal communication between doctors and their patients, especially in national health clinics and hospitals.
