Abstract

The aim of this research is to present the neologisms referring to scientific devices shown in Lecciones de Physica experimental by J.A. Nollet and thus contribute to the working out of the Diccionario histórico del español moderno de la ciencia y de la técnica (DHEMCYT) by Neolcyt research group.

The Spanish translation of scientific texts was one of the ways through which the eighteenth century science progresses were introduced in Spain. The translation made by A. Zacagnini of Lecciones de Physica experimental by J.A. Nollet, published in 1757, spread in Spain and Latin America the latest scientific advances of one of the main exponents of experimental physics in France. Zacagnini had to translate many terms required to describe scientific apparatus, essential to carry out the experiments explained in Nollet handbook.
