Abstract

In this paper I analyze the funeral oration delivered by Andreas Schott (1552-1629) in memory of the Spanish humanist Antonio Agustín (+1586). In my opinion, this eulogy is not only a remarkable product of Neo-Latin funeral oratory, which became a popular literary genre during the second half of XVIth century, but also an important document to understand and to evaluate the meaning and the range of Ciceronianism in Spain during the Renaissance.
