Abstract

This article focuses on the interpretation on Paus. VIII, 27, 1, concluding that corrections to the text (as they are proposed by J. Palm, M.- H. Rocha-Pereira and M. Moggi) are not necessary. On the other hand, this article considers that Pausanias in this text is simply stating the fact that Greece and the Hellenic Orient underwent a general transformation as a consequence of the ruin of the Roman Republic during the Civil Wars, and not stating his general opinion about the negatives effects of the Roman Empire in Greece. A new translation to the text is provided at the end of the article.
