Abstract

The main objective of this research was to identify the factors associated with violence in intimate relationships between gay or bisexual men through an Exploratory Systematic Review based on the SPIDER criteria. To this end, four databases were reviewed, yielding 176 articles, of which 17 were ultimately selected. Most of these were cross-sectional studies conducted in the United States between 2022 and 2023, whose participants identified themselves primarily as homosexual men. The IPV-GBM scale was predominantly used as an instrument to measure experiences of violence in male-male relationships. With regard to the results, the main common factors identified in both victims and perpetrators were the presence of depressive symptoms, drug abuse and/or consumption, previous experiences of intimate partner violence, and the stigma and social rejection associated with homosexuality. Factors associated exclusively with the role of victim included internalised homophobia and experiences of child sexual abuse.
