Abstract

Recent studies and evidence from international relations show how there is a gap between the intentions of international organizations in combating discrimination and supporting the inviolable rights of people and the actual application of these intentions. This is due to the fact that the protection of human rights in the international legal system occurs through legally non-binding instruments, such as the UN Convention on Fundamental Rights of Persons, which only formally bind the states that have ratified them for their convenience. In this paper, we want to support the thesis that even in geopolitics, economic interests prevail over respect for people's rights. As part of this reflection we will start with some concepts: person and individual, growth, progress and development, people's rights and discrimination.
