APROXIMACIONES AL RETABLO RENACENTISTA ASTURIANO Y SUS ARTÍFICES
Abstract
By the end of the 16th century Asturias knew an interesting artistic stage, mostly because of the patronage by the Archbishop Valdés and, in general, by the local clergy. Unfourtanely, altarpieces of this time eirher disappeared or only fragmenrs of them have been preserized. Neverrheless, documents allow us ro approach them. Thus we know that, as in the common practice, they were made in wood wirh polychromy and gilding. There were monstrance-retables, retables with an only body, triptych-retables and other types. They developed a not ven complex iconographic, with predilection for Marian themes or certain Saints like Eulalia or Anthony. In this period it stands our the activity of the masters Francisco González and Juan de Medina Cerón, as the most important ones.Downloads
