Appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence

The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the scientific field has revolutionised the way science is done, facilitating and optimising work in scientific research. However, there are concerns about its use in science, especially research integrity, data use and data privacy. Therefore, ethics becomes an imperative to create guidelines on the honest and responsible use of AI.
Educatio Siglo XXI adheres to the recommendations developed by the R4C-IRG Interdisciplinary Research Group: Complex Thinking for All and the Educational Technology Unit of the Institute for the Future of Education (IFE) of the Monterrey Polytechnic for the scientific endeavour:

1. Ensure scientific and ethical integrity when using AI in research: it should be seen as an auxiliary tool, but not as a definitive solution.
2. Ensure confidentiality of personal data and comply with global data protection regulations: this should be done throughout the entire process of its use.
3. Carry out a critical analysis of AI-generated data: by recognising its technical limitations and the influence of the quality of prompts on the results.
4. Rigorously verify and validate the information obtained: ensuring the validity and relevance of the results, and taking responsibility for their interpretation and application.
5. Document in detail the methods and tools used: clearly specify authorship and the degree of contribution of the AI to the research results.
6. Actively act to identify, reduce and avoid bias in the research: promote full and responsible use of this technology.
7. Continuously keep abreast of developments in AI: diversify experimentation with tools, and encourage their creative and effective use in research.
8. Conduct periodic reviews and adaptations of AI regulations: ensure a continuous alignment of ethical principles with scientific integrity.
9. Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration to enrich knowledge sharing: exploit the synergy between AI and human knowledge.
10. Actively share research-relevant AI sources and provide training to other researchers on their effective application.
