Bibliometric review of school refusal: research perspectives and their analysis
Abstract
School refusal is a type of educational problem that affects negatively the social and educational development of children. The aim of this study was to analyze scientific production on school refusal during the period 2004-2013, in order to provide a complete description of the current state of research on school refusal and highlight the latest scientific contributions. The search of literature was carried out by using four international databases obtaining a sample of 345 studies. The results showed a progressive growth in production and emphasized the scientific interest in studies about the treatment of school refusal and the risk factors associated with absenteeism. This bibliometric study provides information about the evolution of research on school refusal over the last decade. It serves as a framework for future research where there is a need for familiarization with more developed trends of study and emerging lines of research which require to be grounded on scientific studies.
