Abstract

The quality, prestige and influence of a sports science journal are not easy to determine. The most widespread and best known assessment criterion is the impact factor (IF) by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI of Thomson-Reuters). Nevertheless, despite its undoubted qualities, the IF has many limitations and, for that reason, to use only IF to assess Spanish Physical Education journals may be confusing. From these considerations, our work is aimed at revising the criteria to assess journals in the field of Spanish Physical Education. When considering the magazine in which to publish, an author should consider their dissemination, visibility and prestige. With the purpose of helping authors to choose the right journal according to their areas of interest, it is presented a review of the existing journals, their characteristics and relevance within the scientific community.
