Learning and Teaching Mathematics in Primary Education. Good Practices.
Abstract
The analysis of results obtained from different international assessments, in recent years, reveals certain insufficiencies in the knowledge of and levels of learning in mathematics of pupils in compulsory education. In this article, we examine the question of what to do improve the learning and teaching of mathematics as well as addressing the answer to this question, in terms of the role played by the teaching staff in primary education, to improve and achieve effective learning in mathematics.. As the European Higher Education Area stipulates that the initial training period of primary teachers is to be 4 years, this is a great opportunity to improve the teaching of mathematics. Tasks are described that will help to develop the professional skills needed by the teachers to enable them to promote an effective teaching of mathematics.
