Pedagogical Implications in the Prensa Escuela Program in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia)
Abstract
For this matter, students in institutions have been encouraged to read newspapers during class in order to get involved in topics which allow them to develop the ability of critical thinking to improve their cognitive abilities such as analyzing, relating, comparing, constructively criticizing, memorizing and observing. It is thus fundamental that the teacher has a vast and accurate knowledge of press. As the matter of fact, teachers must know how press works in order to give to the students a new vision of it; a vision that agrees with a press that serves with educational purposes. The way the program is intended to be implemented is by using newspapers as libraries where students can find a direct way of getting involved to the actual
global matters that concerns community in general.
