Tennis players´ perceptions on the causes of injuries: differences between federated and no federated

Abstract

The objective of this study were to find out the degree of the importance that tennis players at sport factors, physical factors, environmental factors and psychological factors, vulnerability to sports injuries, and whether there are differences in perception of importance between federal and non-federal players. 63 male tennis players Sports Clubs belonging to the Alicante (Spain), with a mean age of 31.62 years (SD 8.93), participated in this study. The participants answered a questionnaire for the perception of the degree of importance of internal and external factors as causes of tennis injuries, starting from the one used by Olmedilla et al. (2004). Results indicate that, after factor analysis of the questionnaire, the three players down as potential causes of injury: a preventive factors, psychological factors and sport factors. Both the German tennis federation does not consider the factors that sports play an important role, beyond the psychological factors and prevention. The tennis federation does not give greater importance to psychological factors and sport federation that. We discuss about the perception that athletes are the factors that affect sports injuries, can be of great importance from a preventive point of view.
