Abstract

This study analyzed changes in the perception of task presentation (TP), legitimate perception of corrective feedback (LPF), and controlling coaching style (CCS) following a 12-week football fitness intervention in overweight adults participating in the TigreFit program (Tristán Rodríguez et al., 2025). A single-group pre–post change characterization design was employed (n = 29; 14 men and 15 women; aged 35–50 years). Nine coaches received 10 hours of training in the Teaching with Quality in Physical Education and Sport methodology (MECEFD), which integrates the principles of Self-Determination Theory with pedagogical criteria for task presentation and corrective feedback. Participants completed validated scales before (T1) and after the intervention (T2). Results indicated a substantial improvement in task presentation (Δ = 0.35, exceeding the Smallest Worthwhile Change [SWC] threshold of 0.239; Cohen’s d = 0.82) and a reduction in CCS (Δ = -0.168, exceeding the SWC of 0.154; Cohen’s d = -0.56), while LPF remained relatively stable. Correlational analyses showed a positive association between TP and LPF at T1 (r = .56, p = .002), which decreased after the intervention (r = .27, p = .154). These findings show favorable changes in the perceived quality of task presentation and controlling coaching style following the intervention, while the legitimate perception of corrective feedback remained relatively stable.
