Review and standardzation of the test used to evaluate psychological traits in athletes (Par- P1) in a group of performance athletes in Colombia
Abstract
The following study’s intention was to review the PAR P1 Test Developed by Serrato, Garcia y Rivera (2000), by confirming its factors and improving its validity. The design employed is psychometric, a descriptive methodology of a group is used to validate and standardize the test. As a fist step the writing of 39 items of the PAR P1 were analyzed and then 25 items were added. Those items were examined by a group of experts and judges. Furthermore, the test was applied to 40 athletes, finally the analysis of the psychometric qualities of items is examined, as well as the inter and intra scales of the test. At this stage the test is conformed by 61 items. This new version was applied to a total of 600 athletes (240 women and 360 men) between the ages of 12 and 64 years distributed in four different sports groups(combat, art and precision, time and mark and ball sports). Once the Principal Component Analysis with Rotation Varimax is done, an important product is a test of 45 items distributed in five principal factors (selfconfidence, concentration, emotional sensibility and imagination) and two factors of second order (positive attitude and challenge in competition) coming from self confidence factor. The final result of this investigation left a test with a Alpha of Cronbach Coefficient of 0.896 for the whole test and coefficients between 0.705 and 0.929 for the factors. The most important contribution of this study was the confirmation of the scales of PAR P1 in factors and the increment of the levels of trustworthiness of each scale and the whole test, providing a valid and reliability instrument called PAR P1-ReviewDownloads
