Abstract

The proposal of this research project deals with the following objectives: 1- To identify the effect produced by muscle tension and anxiety on the performance of a cognitive test. 2- To identify the effect of a relaxation session and tension control on the performance of a cognitive test. 3- To identify the effect of a session of strong physical activity and several sounds on the levels of tension and anxiety. 4- To identify the effect of a relaxing session on the levels of tension and anxiety. 5- To determine if there is a significant difference among the values obtained by the groups of individuals. This researches was developed with a sample of 24 individuals, 12 men and 12 women who practice martial arts and their ages are between 18 and 25 years. A cognitive test was designed which was a questionnaire according to a reading in order to know the changes on obtained scores after the study treatments had been carried out; besides, the test of POMS was used to measure the levels of tension and anxiety after the study treatments were carried out. After applying an statistic analysis of “t” student, it was easy to establish a significant difference (p

< 0,05), where the levels of tension and anxiety were less after the relaxation session and tension control session= treatment B (post-test), when compared with the levels obtained after the strong physical activity session and strong sounds= treatment A, it also showed that the levels of tension and anxiety registered by the group of women during the pre-test and post-test were significantly different when compared with those from the group of men. Regarding the scores obtained on the cognitive test, a significant difference was established (p< 0,05), where the best score was gotten after the dynamic of relaxation (treatment B) compared to treatment A.
