Psychological characteristics of the referees of soccer of Comunidad Autónoma Gallega

Abstract

The psychological necessities of the soccer referees are unknow in the sport psychology research throughout the time. In this work we present a study where we try to evaluate the referees psychological abilities, with the intention to delimit those areas that need our attention. The selected sample is formed by 216 referees of the Galician School of Soccer Referees, with different ages, antiquity and category. The Buceta, Gimeno and Perez-Llantada´s (1994)

Psychological Characteristics Related to Sport Performance Questionnaire (CPRD) has been administered to them. The results suggest that referees with experience, and than they participate in hight level competitions category, obtain better scores in some of the evaluated factors: "stress control", "performance evaluation

in complex sport situation. Therefore, is necessary to change the present educational approach, optimizing all the perfonmance aspects, which will rebound in the personal performance and in the referee´s well-being.
