Abstract

The aim of the study was to reach a better knowledge of the burnout levels in professional women athletes. The Maslach Burnout Inventory version modified by Garcés de Los Fayos to be applied in athletes (IBD) was administered to ten basketball professional women players in two occassions: at the beginning of the session and three months later. Results show that any player reached burnout levels, although some changes were observed. In five cases, the levels of emotional exhaustion increased, putting these women in risk of developing a burnout syndrome. Psychological factors of these athletes, as well as their relationship with their environment are analized as possible reasons which can allow to understand the evolution of these emotional reactions across the Basketball League session.
