Abstract

Mathurin Régnier was in the front-rank of the French poets of the late 16th and the early 17th century thanks to his enormous contribution to the Satire genre. His vast knowledge on the Classics and his sympathy with the Pleiade and Bernesque poets, as well as Rabelais’ burlesque and fresh tone served this poet to turn Satire into the so-called Comedy of manners. The current work focused on studying the literary trends that infuenced Régnier from a thematic and linguistic approach and analysing the distinctive features of his literary body. More particularly, this paper aimed to carry out a thematic study of satire IX, which elaborates on the author’s aesthetic notion of poetry, and to render satire IX into Spanish, based on the concept of translation-recreation porposed by Efm Etkind.
