Abstract

     The Autonomous Community of Castilla y León represents one of the Spanish regions that more is investing in rural tourism as an economic activity that supplements or substitutes to the traditional agricultural activities in rural areas. The outstanding growth that experiences this activity of services in the last years, has been favored by the expansion of the demand of this variety of tourism that has had answer from the side of the supply, with a notable increment of the number of establishments and of lodging rooms. This productive activity is very important for the improvement of the economic opportunities of the rural areas, being part of the performances included in the different strategies of rural development, specially if the area presents competitive advantages in cultural, architectural and environmental resources. This project attempts to analyze the evolution experienced by the supply and the demand of rural tourism in Castilla and León in the last years, as well as the economic repercussion and the contribution to the development of the areas where it is located.
