THE ANTICUADO MARK IN THE SPANISH MARINE DICTIONARY OF 1831
Abstract
The Diccionario Marítimo Español (1831) is presented in this paper as a lexicographic product of the 19th century linguistic paradigm. The analysis of the label anticuado shows its authors idea of specialized vocabulary, the plan they followed on developing their work, and the materials they had for it. The great number of obsolete words contained in the Diccionario Marítimo Español (1831) can be explained by the presence of old texts in the corpus they used. The label anticuado made sure the understanding of those historical texts and alert the user that these terms should not be naively employed in a present-day scientific paper.Downloads
