Lexical and enthnographic vitality: the case of gualchos based on data from the VitaLex project
Abstract
Here we report data from our first analysis of item 515 of Vitalex project. This project aims at studying lexical vitality through a contrastive approach using the results of ALEA as well as data from a current sample. Data was collected in Gualchos, within the La Alpujarra. In this first analysis we find a very interesting relationship between the deep socio-economic and demographic transformation of the area and lexical mutations. The mutations we found were a high percentage of mortality and loss of dialect specificity resulting in a shift towards standard terms, especially in fields related to agricultural and livestock life.Lexical vitality in this region will be studied with a general analysis of the data derived from the comparison of both samples as well as their relationship to the generations, volumes and categories. Last, we will also atempt to stablish a tipology of lexical variation processes.
