Abstract

People with Dementia of Alzheimer’s Type (DAT) suffer a communicative deficit that has been little studied from an interac- tional perspective. These speakers’ linguistic abilities have usually been analyzed regardless the communicative restrictions imposed by the interlocutor. In this paper we study nine conversations with a demented person from the analysis of the types of questions and ans- wers for each participant. Results show that person with DTA’s percentage of inappropriate answers increases as dementia progresses and that it is bigger after an open-ended question than after a yes-no question.
