Methodological aspects of the construction of legal corpora: Considerations on the Corpus de Procesos Penales
Abstract
Research on legal discourse tends to base its analysis in corpora of real texts. However, the study of legal Spanish still lacks theoretical considerations about how its corpora should be. On the basis of the construction of the Corpus de Procesos Penales (Corpus of Criminal Proceedings), this paper addresses some issues and makes some suggestions on the design of a corpus for the analysis of judicial Spanish. Specifically, it describes the empirical needs and the practical difficulties of developing corpora. In addition, it deals with the ethical implications of constructing and using a corpus of legal texts.Downloads
