Abstract

This research paper examines not only the reason why the field of teaching Spanish as a foreign language lacks linguistic information about various gustar syntactic structures, but also innovates the study of teaching the Spanish language by fostering an interlanguage hierarchy for learning intransitive syntactic structures of the gustar verb and other similar verbs. This interlanguage hierarchy is essential for both the teaching of the Spanish language and English-speaking students’ learning so that one understands how students can acquire syntactic maturity through the explicit teaching of authentic Spanish language syntactic structures.
