Abstract

The main objective of this paper is the morphological analysis of neologisms produced by scholars in the scientific-technical language. The corpus analyzed in this investigation, containing the new lexical units used by university professors was collected from articles published in refereed journals in various fields of knowledge like literature, medicine, chemistry, economics, mathematics, linguistics and pedagogy. Previous researches accomplished by the team, dealing with neology have allowed collecting 100 neologisms or adapted terms created by academics. These lexical unities are analyzed in terms of the morphological resources used for their production and classified according to the criterion proposed by Cabré (2006). Among the key findings highlighted the fact that in the production of scientific terms, there is a higher tendency to create neologisms, product of the made derivation in order to cover a designation need, as opposed to adopting foreign words or the semantic calques.
