The Lexicon as the Organizer of Text

Abstract

This paper offers a simultaneously theoretical and applied approach to the role of the lexicon in texts. We begin with a review of the lexicon and lexical meaning from a broad cognitive perspective, mainly frame, script and schema theory, and a text is then analysed in order to show how the lexicon and lexical meanings are basic for the coherence of a text, its articulation in parts and its overall organisation.
