Abstract

Based on a study by australian historian Darryl Burrowes are analyzed, the life trajectories and works, of great significance and transcendence, of four important writers: George Orwell, Gerald Brenan, Burnett Bolloten and Herbert Rutledge Southworth about the Spanish Civil War. The historian addresses the extent to which the perceptions of the conflict of the four writers were influenced by the Cold War period and by the greater or lesser influence of the two anglo-saxon agencies that were decisive in shaping public opinion and cultural policy during those years in relation to contemporary politics and recent history: the Information Research Department of the British Foreign Office and the American Congress for Cultural Freedom.
