Abstract

Film restoration, like that of ancient works of art, aims to recover the original beauty of works that have been damaged or degraded by the passage of time. However, it is important to clearly distinguish between restoration (returning a film to its original state) and remastering (updating its quality), and it is also crucial to discern which procedure is most appropriate for each project. This article explores a series of image and sound processes that have allowed the digital remastering of a traditional animation production for the screen. This article describes the experience of remastering María Lorenzo's short film Portrait of D. (2003), which was carried out taking from the same artistic materials with which this short film was produced more than two decades ago.
