Insertions in Ideological Circuits, or the Silent Disobedience of Cildo Meireles, Grup de Treball, and Equipo Santiago & Bruscky.
Abstract
This article examines three artistic interventions from the 1970s that used communication and consumption channels—controlled by authoritarian regimes—to disseminate subversive messages that encourage critical thinking. It presents a comparative analysis of three case studies that, despite being geographically distant, share the context of repression under military dictatorships in both Brazil and Spain: Inserções em circuitos ideológicos by Cildo Meireles (1970), Anunciamos by Grup de Treball (1973), and Revista Classificada by Equipe Bruscky & Santiago (1978).
A material-based study of these works allows us to identify the strategies employed and the spaces in which they operated, examining their attempt to communicate with a new audience through their insertion into preexistent circuits. Through these actions, the article explores how artistic interventions that integrate into everyday structures—such as consumer goods or mass media—can create narratives of resistance in response to complex socio-political conditions.
