Abstract

The author, basing on the contrast between the historians Pedro Mexía and Gonzalo Illescas, shows how the inclusion of legends and fabulous elements in a historical work does not entail a lack of rigour. He also concludes that scepticism regarding legendary tradition is not always synonymous with objectivity. These conclusions are drawn from a detailed analysis, contrasted with the sources of an episode in which both authors coincide.
