Abstract

The replacement of the old genitive ending -ας by -αο is the first innovation in the forμation of the masculine *-a stems in Greek, and it was made by analogy with the pronominal declension, in the same way as it has occurred in nominative and genitive plural of masculine and feminine forms of *-a stems and in nominative and accusative dual forms of feminine gender of the sane stem.
