Pompeius and his influence on Transalpine Gaul: the case of Massalia

Abstract

It is sufficiently known that Cn. Pompey the Great (cos. I 70 BC) had an important clientele in the Roman world, including the province of Transalpine Gaul. In this paper we present the relationship between this politician and the city of Massalia, as an example of this type of relationships.
