Abstract

We propose an analysis of the herodotean influences and echoes in Curtius Rufus’ Histories from a literary perspective. The scenes of Darius defeat and the advance of Alexander the Great are permeated by a simplistic version of the history of Croesus. This simplification of the herodotean thought, the no roman argument, and the composition of the Histories by means of isolated scenes are the causes of the lack of autorial sense in the concept of fortuna.
