Abstract

Martial’s work shows a great wish of living enjoying small daily gaudia such as friendship, talking, literature. But illness, sorrow, pain prevent him from doing it. Martial feels sorry for his friends or criticizes the ones whose troubles arise from their own vices. Therefore, he reveals a real picture of the miseries and afflictions that concerned a Roman and endangered his joy of life in Martial’s times.
