Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the shield made by Vulcan (Aeneid 8.617- 731) considering both its prophetic character and the way it is conveyed through an ekphrasis. The spatial arrangement of the vignettes and the connection between each image with the center will be examined, together with Aeneas’ ability to understand the prophecy about the Roman future.
